A history of technical milestones in refrigeration

The Friotherm group of companies has its roots in the Sulzer group.  Friotherm became legally independent by means of a management buyout in 2005. Today it offers heat pumps, liquid chillers, components and services of high quality and reliability.

The heritage of Friotherm Deutschland GmbH

In 1921 Escher Wyss, Zürich, a Swiss industrial pioneer company founded the EWL branch office in Lindau-Reutin for the production of refrigeration machines. In 1972, Sulzer aquired Escher Wyss, Zürich. The Lindau branch office was named Sulzer-Escher Wyss GmbH, Lindau (SEW). The product range was extended with chillers for industrial cooling and Unitop® liquid chillers with centrifugal compressors for air conditioning and industrial processes. in 2001 the Sulzer industrial refrigeration department was acquired by the Belgian company Fabricom. Subsequently, two former employees of SEW founded their own refrigeration company. From the start, they were engaged with engineering and production of chillers for nuclear power plants. The company joined Friotherm in 2008, closing again the link to a former Sulzer company.

Today, Friotherm Deutschland GmbH is an important supplier of liquid chillers to the energy production sector and to industrial production an storage facilities. The large Unitop heat pumps and liquid chillers for Friotherm AG are assembled in the works of Friotherm GmbH, Weißensberg.
